Anthony Davis Shouts “Purple ‘Til The Day I Die”, Opens About His Impending Free Agency

Anthony Davis, who is having a phenomenal NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, is arguably the biggest fish on the free agent market in the upcoming NBA free agency. Even though this still is a somewhat long way ahead, many fans can’t stop speculating where Davis will be headed once the season wraps up.

Recently, Lakers fans went crazy after a video of Davis during a scrimmage, in which he screamed “Purple ‘til the day I die,” went circulating all over social media. The clip was captured by his teammate JaVale McGee who was shooting footage for one of his vlogs.

Countless of fans assumed that Davis showed implication of staying with the Lakers in the near future. However, it was more likely that Davis was speaking about representing his purple scrimmage team than actually staying and signing a multi-year contract with the Lakers.

Ultimately, the 27-year old Lakers big man, who has a chance to opt into the final year of his contract with the Lakers, admitted that he hasn’t thought about free agency and is only focused with what lies ahead with the team this season.

Per Sports Illustrated:

“I was focused on trying to see what the NBA is going to do about this season, and if we’re going to come back or not,” Davis said. “But it hasn’t crossed my mind within this three month, four month break.”

Davis was averaging 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game on 51.1% shooting from the field before the hiatus. The seven-time All-Star is one of the top candidates to win the Defensive Player of the Year award following an outstanding defensive showcase throughout the season.
