Atlanta Hawks Have Reportedly Discussed The Possibility Of Trading Trae Young: “Having Trae In Your Organization Presents Challenges”

The Atlanta Hawks have been a team in disarray through the midpoint of the 2022-23 NBA season. They’ve seen a lot of turmoil highlighted by Nate McMillan’s coaching issues, Hawks president Travis Schlenk’s surprising exit, and some other fiasco involving Trae Young.

The team has been staying afloat with a 22-22 record which is enough for the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. Still, the expectation was that the Hawks would be more than a team showing signs of disarray at this point of the season.

Amid this underwhelming campaign, many fans and pundits are now expecting the Hawks to look for a change of scenery, whether that means making a coaching change or shaking up their roster. Of course, the rumor mill did not disappoint, and the latest commodity turns out to be Trae Young.

Young is averaging 27.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game on 42.4% shooting from the field this season. Despite being the No.1 guy on the team, Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution mentioned that the Hawks have touched on the possibility of trading the 24-year old offensive point guard.

Per Audacy:

“Here’s what I can tell you from multiple sources,” Vivlamore told Zinno and 92.9 the Game on Monday afternoon about trading Trae Young. “I don’t know if it goes anywhere, but that has been discussed.”

“Having Trae [Young] in your organization presents challenges,” he added. “We’ve seen some of them bubble out. We had an element in the reporting today that he didn’t even fly back with the team after a loss to Miami in the playoffs last year. That stuff is from a young player that needs to mature and I think there are issues with that.”
