Brandon Jennings Reflects On Bucks Championship: ‘The City Of Milwaukee Changed My Life Again’

In the 2009 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks selected Brandon Jennings with their 10th pick. Jennings had a very promising start to his NBA career, playing all 82 games of his rookie campaign, averaging 15.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals (including a 55 point game) which led him to All Rookie First Team honors.

After three more promising seasons in Milwaukee (including averaging a career best 19.1 points in 2012), Jennings took his talents to Detroit. That’s when his career took a wrong turn and started going downhill. Not least due to numerous issues on and off the court. Two and a half years in Detroit, followed by short stints in Orlando, New York and Washington with almost zero success, caused Jennings to give up his NBA dream and leave the country to play in China.

In the 2017-18 season, Jennings returned to Milwaukee Bucks for a quick stint, but without any memorable success, and has been out of the league ever since.

But during the Milwaukee Bucks’ championship this year, Jennings became somewhat of a mascot for the team, due to his infamous Bucks in 6 statement from years back.

He was part of all the celebrations including the parade, where fans celebrated their former player. Jennings now talked about that experience and how the city has changed his life again.

Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

“It brought back a lot of memories of just when I started back here in Milwaukee and just to see the growth of the city from the new arena to a lot of new things in the city was very exciting to me.

Just to be a part of that experience – the ‘Bucks in six’ – people thought it was a joke back then when I said it but I just felt like that year when we played Miami we played great against them in the regular season so of course, I’m not going to say we’re going to lose. But just to see it eight years from now really become (reality), it was really embracing. I had a very humbling experience…

…The city of Milwaukee changed my life again.”
