Brittney Griner Makes Direct Appeal To President Biden For Her Freedom: “Please Don’t Forget About Me”

After Russian customs officials found vape cartridges that contained hashish oil in basketball star Brittney Griner’s luggage this past February, she was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.

Unfortunately for her Griner, her detention comes at the most dangerous moment in U.S.-Russia relations since the end of the Cold War, with the U.S. being a leading force in the NATO that is currently supporting Ukraine.

This has led to Griner becoming a valuable asset for the Russians, who are trying to exchange her for arms trafficker Viktor Bout, who is imprisoned in the U.S., in a prisoner swap.

While the U.S. government is trying to bring Griner back, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has revealed that he is working side by side with WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert to help the cause.

That were the latest ‘real’ news we received on the topic… that was almost six weeks ago.

Griner herself now wrote a letter to President Joe Biden, making a direct appeal for her freedom, while asking him to ‘please don’t forget about me’.

Per ESPN:

“I realize you are dealing with so much, but please don’t forget about me and the other detainees,” an excerpt released by the WNBA star’s representatives said. “Please do all you can to bring us home.”

“On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those men who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran,” another excerpt read. “It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year.”

Other portions in the letter read: ” … as I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever.”

She also wrote, “I voted for the first time in 2020 and I voted for you. I believe in you. I still have so much good to do with my freedom that you can help restore. I miss my wife! I miss my family! I miss my teammates! It kills me to know they are suffering so much right now. I am grateful for whatever you can do at this moment to get me home.”
