Car Crash Worse Than Reported, Karl-Anthony Towns ‘Blessed to Be Alive’

This past Friday, Karl-Anthony Towns went into the NBA’s concussion protocol after a car accident, forcing him to miss the Timberwolves’ games against the Knicks and Bucks. Friday’s game against the Knicks was the first game Towns has missed in his NBA career, ending the streak at 303 consecutive games played.

It also was the longest streak to begin a career since 1971, but the medical examination prevented him from playing.

Towns already returned for last night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, which is great news considering how bad the accident turned out to be. Towns himself is blessed to be alive after he was hit by the semi truck.

“It could have been much worse. I’m blessed to be alive. In all honesty, I should not have made it out like I did, but I’m glad I did,”

According to FOX Sports 9’s Jeff Wald, Towns, who is averaging 23.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, was on his way to the airport with a team trainer when they were rear-ended by a semi truck traveling 35-45 miles per hour.

Coincidentally Towns’ teammate Taj Gibson drove by the accident himself, not knowing that Towns had been involved. When the two met in New York City, he gave him a big hug and was relieved he was ok.
