Carmelo Anthony Says That He’s Always Felt Connected With The Lakers Because Of His Brother Kobe Bryant

Prior to the 2019-20 season, the past few years hadn’t been ideal for Carmelo Anthony.

After a rough year in Oklahoma City, Anthony was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-way deal, but never played a minute for the Hawks, and was bought out of his contract. Houston then signed him and was hopeful that he could improve their team.

That only lasted a couple of weeks, before Carmelo Anthony’s services were no longer required in Houston. He was the easy scapegoat for how subpar and dysfunctional the Rockets were.

Then, the Portland Trail Blazers finally gave Melo a chance two season ago, a chance Melo took full advantage of.

Now, this offseason, Melo joined his old buddy LeBron James and the rest of the Lakers Expendables in their quest to win an NBA title – it would be the first in Melo’s long career.

It wasn’t the first time Melo garnered interest from the Lakers, as back in 2014, Anthony and the Lakers met up for a potential team-up, that didn’t end up happening. Nonetheless, Melo stated that he has always been connected with the Lakers franchise through his ‘brother’, Kobe Bryant.

“I’ve always been connected to (the organization) some way, some how” including through his “brother, Kobe.”
