Charles Barkley Thinks Donovan Mitchell And Damian Lillard Should’ve Been All-Star Starters Over Curry And Doncic

Donovan Mitchell has been playing like an All-Star, averaging 24.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game on 42.7% shooting from the field throughout this season. The same goes for Damian Lillard, who’s been filling up the stat-sheet, averaging 29.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game on 45.1% shooting.

However, despite his best efforts, Mitchell and Lillard were not named as All-Star starters, and will have to be selected as a reserve to make the All-Star team.

After the league announced that Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic comprised the starting backcourt for the Western Conference All-Star team, many NBA viewers questioned how these two players were selected over Mitchell and Lillard.

On ‘Inside the NBA on TNT’, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley expressed the same sentiment and explained why Mitchell and Lillard should’ve gotten the nod instead.

“There’s no right or wrong answer, but I thought [Damian] Lillard and Donovan Mitchell, to me, (should have been All-Star starters),” Barkley said on TNT’s pregame show before the Toronto Raptors took on the Milwaukee Bucks. “When you have the best record in basketball, that says a lot. They have these stupid arguments about who gets MVP every year. The MVP has never went to the best player. It always went to who was the best player on the best team. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal should have won three or four, but the other guys played better that season.
