The MVP race is going down to the wire. At this point, it’s baffling to vouch for any other player other than Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. The two players have been at the top of the league all season long and have now entrenched themselves in a rightful two-man race.

Jokic, who has won the award in back-to-back seasons, has proven to be so dominant that the opportunity to win a third MVP is just standing in front of him. He’s nearly posting a triple-double season average this year while leading the Nuggets to the top seed in the Western Conference.

That being said, Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard feels as though that Jokic shouldn’t win the award for the third time in a row. Appearing on “The Dan Patrick Show”, Lillard now explained why he’s picking Embiid to win the award over the two-time MVP winner.

As transcribed by Fadeaway World:

“I picked Joel Embiid because I feel like he’s been dominant all season long,” Lillard said. “His team is winning. I feel like he could have won it one of the last two years but Jokic won it both times. And I just think because he’s been, to me, the most dominant player, he’s been carrying his team. I think you can’t continue to give it to a guy who’s won it twice in a row, especially when you have a guy like this that’s performing at the same level for maybe even higher and he also didn’t get it one of the last two times when he was at that level. That’s not how it should work.”
