De’Aaron Fox Ditches NFT Project After Scamming $1.5 million Off Fans

After a disappointing start to the season, Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox has turned it around as of late, averaging 28.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 triples while shooting better than 50% from the floor in the last five games before the break, and a 20-point game against the Denver Nuggets last night.

Off the court however, Fox has been involved in some more than shady actions. This past December, the young guard announced his “SwipaTheFox” NFT project that went live on January 15. The project roadmap promised a metaverse basketball court, a scholarship to a University of Kentucky student, and chances to win all-star game tickets, with “much more to come” afterwards.

The project made about 475 ETH, which was about $1.5 million at the time.

Then, this past Wednesday, SwipaTheFox deleted all of its social media accounts, with Fox writing in a Discord announcements:

“The time and attention that y’all deserve and that I wanted to give you all/what this project requires, was not known to me and I overstepped and stretched myself too thin, trying to do this project in the middle of an NBA season.”

Scamming fans off $1.5 million obviously is a really bad look for Fox, the NBA and the Sacramento Kings, and at this point, we’d have to consider Fox as an NFT scammer.
