DeMar DeRozan Reacts To Los Angeles Lakers Trade Rumors: “You Always Want To Be Wanted”

DeMar DeRozan may have flown under the radar this past year and isn’t as big of a name as other top tier NBA stars. But the Spurs shooting guard surely is still one of the best shooting guards in the NBA today.

DeRozan averaged 22.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game on a career-high 53.1 field goal percentage with the Spurs this past season. The former Raptors All-Star hasn’t had the same success since being dealt to the Spurs prior to the 2019 season, but the numbers speak that he could still contribute up to a par.

This is why that the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in bringing him in, to pair him up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. And it seems like the two parties have mutual interest, as DeRozan expressed that he previously envisioned of playing with the Lakers during his appearance on ‘All The Smoke’ podcast.

“Without a doubt. You always have them dreams of doing it, you know what I mean? For me it’s just I’ve learned being in the league so long that you always want to be wanted… So when you see things about teams wanting you, you can’t feel a certain type of way. You’d better feel good about it because there’s some motherf—ers that’s not wanted. You don’t want to be that person.

“So to be wanted by a championship team that just came off a championship, to see that, how could you not feel some type of way? Especially me, being from L.A., it’s like ‘damn, my hometown team want me? They just came off a championship and they want me?’ It’s definitely crazy to be able to see that, but anybody knows that whatever jersey I got on, I’m gonna lay it out there on the line and represent in the best way I can.”
