DeMar DeRozan Reveals He Had Plenty Of Conversations With LeBron James About Joining The Lakers: “Tried To Make It Work”

During this past offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers toed with the idea of trading for former San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan. The rumors became a bit more interesting over time as the four-time All-Star also expressed interest in wearing the purple and gold.

However, the DeRozan trade didn’t come into fruition despite the mutual interest between both parties. Eventually, DeRozan was traded to the Chicago Bulls, while the Lakers pursued a different star which turned out to be Russell Westbrook.

Now, in an interview with NBA insider Shams Charania, DeRozan talked about his attempt to join the Lakers, revealing that he shared plenty of conversations with LeBron James about making it work before the idea ultimately fell apart.

“They was great, honestly,” DeRozan said of the conversations he had with James about joining the Lakers. “Tried to make it work. Had plenty of conversation with Bron. Tried to make it work. Just didn’t work. You know how the business go. One thing can just change the whole dynamic and everything, but it was a hell of a opportunity that we tried to make happen. Me being from L.A., would have been crazy, but some things just didn’t work out, but it’s always great just to have the opportunity.”
