DeMarcus Cousins Honors Stephon Clark, Who Was Shot by Police In His Grandma’s Yard Last Year

In March of 2018, 22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot by police officers in his grandmother’s backyard in Sacramento, after Police was pursuing him in suspicion of reported car robberies in the neighborhood. The officers fired 20 rounds at Clark, who was unarmed.

Former Sacramento Kings and now Warriors star DeMarcus Cousins then reached out to the Clark family and offered to pay the funeral expenses. It wasn’t the first time Cousins got involved with social (in)justice issues. In 2015, he paid for the funeral of high school football player Jaulon Clavo, who was shot before a playoff game.

Now, during the Warriors’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers last night, Cousins was wearing custom shoes (on each of his shoes, he wrote #StephonClark), honoring Stephon Clark.

It always is great to see basketball players get involved and care about their communities.
