Dennis Rodman Arrested In California

Dennis Rodman played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, he was nicknamed “The Worm” and was known for his fierce defensive and rebounding abilities.

Rodman has always been a controversial person, druing his active playing career and afterwards. In recent years, Rodman has struggled with alcoholism, which is the reason for his most recent arrest. The former defensive player of the year was arrested for DUI in Newport Beach, California, yesterday. He was released on his own recognizance about 7 hours after his arrest.

Rodman’s agent, Darren Prince, issued a statement to CNN regarding the former NBA star’s struggle with alcoholism.

“He’s been dealing with some major personal issues the last month and I know it’s time he checks back into a rehab center to work through them,” Prince said. “We ask for his fans and others to pray for him because he’s such a great person when he’s sober and deserves to be happy with all the joy he gave his fans when he played in the NBA. Now it’s time for him to rebound in life.”

Rodman played at the small forward position in his early years before becoming a power forward. He earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times and won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award twice. He also led the NBA in rebounds per game for a record seven consecutive years and won five NBA championships. His biography at NBA.com states that he is “arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history.” On April 1, 2011, the Pistons retired Rodman’s No. 10 jersey, and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later that year.
