Dennis Schröder Says Lakers Never Offered Him An $80 Million Contract Extension: “That’s Not True”

Dennis Schröder is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers after taking a short detour in Boston and Houston last season. In what will be his second stint with the Lakers, the German point guard agreed to join the team on a one year, $2.64 million deal.

During his first stint with the team in 2020-21 NBA season, Schröder surprisingly turned down a four year contract extension worth up to $84 million in hopes to secure a more lucrative offer in the offseason. However, his plan didn’t go according to plan and he has settled with lesser contracts ever since.

Speaking of his past contract extension with the Lakers, the 29-year old point guard now denied reports of contract talks and opened up that he never rejected anything since there was never a contract to begin with.

Per ESPN:

“I mean, end of the day, there never was a contract,” Schroder said. “There never was a contract, never rejected anything … That’s not true.”
