Dennis Smith Jr’s All-Time Starting Five

When the New York Knicks traded for Dennis Smith Jr. last year, they had high hopes for him, rightfully so. The former Maverick point guard was one of the most impressive rookies in the 2017-18 season. Smith averaged 15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game and was selected into the NBA’s All Rookie Second Team.

Unfortunately for Smith and the Knicks, the high hopes haven’t been met, yet. In addition to continued injury issues, Smith hasn’t looked too great when he was able to play. Through the 21 games he’s played this season, Smith is averaging 5.2 points on a shocking 32.5% from the floor, and 50% from the free-throw line. 

A strained left oblique has sidelined Smith for the better part of the past month. As he is closing in on a return, he can’t wait to play again in order to flip the script and turn his subpar season around.

Before last night’s game against the Phoenix Suns, I was able to talk to the young guard for a bit, and asked him about his all-time starting five. His five selections are interesting, but during their primes turn out to be a deadly team. 

Derrick Rose at point, Michael Jordan as shooting guard, LeBron James at the small forward position, Dirk Nowitzki playing power forward, and Shaquille O’Neal being the center.
