Doc Rivers Addresses Concerns Over Ben Simmons’ 7-Point Game: “Ben’s A Facilitator”

Without Joel Embiid, the 76ers and its fans are expecting quite a production from the rest of the team, especially from Ben Simmons who’s evidently the other All-Star on the team. Come Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the 6-foot-10 point guard however ended up with only 7 points on 33.3% shooting from the field, to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

As one would expect, the night ended with a discourse focused around Simmons and his lack of a scoring output. The All-Star point guard is averaging a career-low in points with 15.2 points per game this season, topping it off with a 7-point game surely isn’t a sight to see for Philadelphia fans.

Amid the recent talk about Simmons’ scoring, 76ers head coach Doc Rivers has come to defense of Simmons and claimed that his scoring isn’t much of concern for him since the 76ers All-Star point guard has always been a facilitator and does other things to help them win.

Per USA Today:

“I think Ben’s a facilitator,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I think that’s what he does. I thought he did a great early on, and after that, I thought I thought they all got tired. As the game went on, less and less driving happened. I think you guys are way more concerned about him scoring than I am.”

“I think Ben does so many things for this team to help us win,” Rivers finished. “Scoring is just, I’m telling you, the least thing that I’m concerned about.”
