ESPN Has Apologized For Using Twin Towers Stock Footage During Heat-Knicks Game

Yesterday, we reported about how ESPN and ABC drew some major criticism for their Miami Heat and New York Knicks Game 1 broadcast.

As the game went into halftime, the broadcast cut to B-roll footage of New York City and the Statue of Liberty.  What was supposed to a scenic shot – one we see in every sports broadcast – ended with plenty of criticism by fans and NBA Twitter, because in this shot used by the broadcasters, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were visible in the frame.

ESPN now has officially apologized for using old stock footage video that showed the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.

“We mistakenly used an old stock image and we apologize,” senior director, communications at ESPN Ben Cafardo wrote in an email statement to Awful Announcing.
