Fan Blowing Whistle Disrupts Play In Cavs Vs Pelicans Game

In 2009, during a game between the Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors, a fan caused a lot of confusion. Mehmet Okur stripped the ball from Ronny Turiaf, when a whistle was blown, stopping the play… at least that’s what everybody thought.

A couple of seconds later, players realized that no referee blew the whistle and the game continued with Kyle Korver streaking down the court for an easy dunk. It then turned out that a fan in the stands, behind Golden State’s basket, had blown the whistle. But they didn’t have any trouble figuring out who it was, as the fan was wearing a referee uniform…

Now, 11 years later, it happened again. During last night’s game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Pelicans, a fan in the stands blew a whistle and caused some major confusion. Unlike the last incident though, this time, the fan was not found.
