Former Detroit Pistons Forward John Salley Believes John Wall Is On The Same Level As Stephen Curry

Pre-injury, John Wall used to be a consistent fixture in the All-Star game and was being heavily considered as arguably the best point guard in the Eastern Conference while playing for the Washington Wizards.

Wall posted a per-game averages of 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game on 43.3% shooting during his tenure with the Wizards, made five straight All-Star appearances over time and led the team to the playoffs four-times.

Wall was one of the best point guards in the NBA during his Wizards days and is still a solid point guard up until today with the Houston Rockets. However, Wall hasn’t done anything monumental to put his name on the same tier as the likes of Stephen Curry, who established himself as the best point guard of this generation.

Everyone seems to know that except for former Detroit Pistons forward John Salley. According to Salley, Wall and Curry are on the same level, but the difference in supporting cast throughout their careers restricted everyone from seeing Wall’s true greatness.

“Yeah, especially John Wall,” Salley answered when asked if he’s putting Wall and Curry on the same level.

“John Wall is unbelievable,” Salley said. “But the problem is, he was buried in Washington so we didn’t get to see him. So when you got really good guys in really bad teams, you don’t get to see their greatness because they’re not winning.”

“They work even harder because they’re trying to win each game as opposed to Steph Curry,” Salley said of Wall. “When you’re on a bad team. You don’t get a five-minute break, you don’t have a guy like Klay Thompson on this side or Livingston to step in on this side.”
