Gregg Popovich: “It’s One Of My Joys In Life To Watch The 76ers Win Games”

Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown was working as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs for 11 years prior to taking over as head coach in Philly. Brown and Popovich reportedly became good friends during their time in San Antonio and still talk to each other on a regular basis.

After Brown’s first three seasons with the Sixers have been somewhat horrible (47-199 record =23.6%), things are finally starting to work out in the city of brotherly love. In their last 10 games, the Sixers have a 8-2 record (trust the process) which is tied for 2nd best among all NBA teams. They currently play great team-oriented basketball and Joel Embiid has already emerged into a star, even though he is a rookie with limited minutes are. All this improvement is closely watched by Gregg Popovich, who couldn’t be happer for his long-time friend.

“It’s one of my joys in life to watch them win basketball games because if there’s any team that deserves it, it’s those guys. They’ve had it really tough for all the obvious reasons, and there’s nobody in our business that is more positive, and more day to day upbeat and ready to teach and love than Brett Brown. He’s a unique, unique guy.”

That’s what Popvich told Michael C. Wright on ESPN.com. We’ll have to find out if he still thinks that way in 2, or 3 years, when the Sixers could really become a playoff team, maybe even a contender (Ben Simmons!).
