Gregg Popovich Says Nikola Jokic Is A Reincarnation Of Larry Bird

Heading into the bubble, Nuggets star Nikola Jokic had a drastic weight loss which left the impressions that he’s in for a great comeback in Orlando, Florida.

Jokic has been putting in the work for the Nuggets in this season-restart, and on Wednesday, the Serbian big-man has once again didn’t disappoint.

After Jokic dropped 25 points, 4 rebounds and 11 assists to help the Denver Nuggets beat the San Antonio Spurs, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich couldn’t help but offer praises to the Serbian big-man, comparing him to two all-time greats in Larry Bird and Moses Malone.

Jokic indeed resembles some of Bird’s qualities. Both players stand out as incredible passers, especially for their size, and are used to operating in the post with eyes on the back of their heads. They also know how to use their body and possess a good timing when it comes to rebounding.

While the two players differ in their scoring approach, it’s safe to say they’re both reliant on a soft touch and basketball IQ instead of pure athleticism like other rim-runners. On defense meanwhile, the two players don’t have too much of a reputation.

The Nuggets star is currently averaging 20.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game on 52.6% shooting from the field. Jokic isn’t as accomplished as Bird at the same stage of their careers, but his stats are somewhat Bird-esque if we say so.
