Ja Morant Blames Injury For Last Season’s Playoff Loss To The Golden State Warriors: “It Was Pretty Much Our Year”

Last season, the Memphis Grizzlies booked a trip to the second-round of the NBA playoffs and managed to hoist the Golden State Warriors. While the Grizzlies showed a lot of fight, the team eventually came up short and were eliminated in six games.

Grizzlies star Ja Morant did his part to give his team a shot against the eventual NBA champions. During the series, he averaged 38.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists on 50.6% shooting in three games before getting ruled out due to a right knee injury.

Morant has always been confident in himself and his teammates, and a loss to the Warriors surely didn’t shake that off. Now appearing on “The Pivot Podcast”, the 23-year old point guard suggested that last year’s campaign was supposed to be their year if not for his injury.

“In my three years, I had an injury that took me away for a while, and obviously, late in the playoffs, that injury took me out of the series, and I felt like me personally and my teammates, we were the favorites in that series.”

“It was pretty much our year, but that injury cause me to be out,” Morant said. “And now you have to change lineups and you know guys playing without me. I feel like that’s the most frustrating part for me. You know, being out there and not being able to compete.”
