Jaylen Brown Calls ‘Extremely Toxic’ Portion Of Celtics Fanbase Problematic

Mots NBA players, who aren’t playing for the Boston Celtics, aren’t fans of Celtics fans, to say the least.

While many other NBA players like Bill Russell, Kyrie Irving, and LeBron James have spoken about the obvious, or sometimes underlying racism of some Celtics fans, Celtics player Jaylen Brown has previously also touched on the topic.

Brown now was asked about the Celtics’ fanbase, and whether he’s experienced any negative treatment in an interview with The New York Times. The All-Star admitted that he has been treated poorly as a Black athlete in Boston, while calling a certain amount of Celtic fans extremely toxic.

“I have, but I pretty much block it all out,” Brown said. “It’s not the whole Celtic fan base, but it is a part of the fan base that exists within the Celtic nation that is problematic. If you have a bad game, they tie it to your personal character.

I definitely think there’s a group or an amount within the Celtic nation that is extremely toxic and does not want to see athletes use their platform, or they just want you to play basketball and entertain and go home. And that’s a problem to me.”
