Jeff Van Gundy Recalls 2015 NBA Finals And Reveals That He Was Shocked LeBron James Wasn’t Named Finals MVP

When the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Finals, defensive specialist Andre Iguodala walked away with the Finals MVP. He received seven of 11 votes, while then-Cavaliers superstar LeBron James got the other four votes.

LeBron James put up eye-popping numbers with 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists on 39.8% shooting from the field in the series while carrying the Cavaliers without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love for the most of the series.

While he had clearly the best stats, voters favored Iguodala of the team that came out superior, because of his defense on LeBron despite averaging worse numbers with 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on 52.1% shooting from the field in the series.

Former head coach and renowned ESPN commentator Jeff Van Gundy now recalled watching the 2015 Finals and admitted that he was shocked that the Finals MVP didn’t go unanimously to LeBron.

Per Sports Illustrated:

“Actually, I was shocked that it wasn’t unanimous for LeBron,” says Van Gundy, ESPN’s lead NBA analyst. “That’s just me. I didn’t think it was a hard decision.”
