JJ Redick Reveals Rumored Schedule Structure & Playoff Seedings For NBA Return

The NBA saw a sudden turn of events after the emergence of the global coronavirus pandemic that led to NBA commissioner Adam Silver suspending the 2019-20 NBA season. With the hiatus still affecting the whole landscape of the league, the NBA is forced to make some major changes.

Arguably the biggest change that is being discussed, is the new structure of the NBA season. Everything is premature at this point, but a lot of things are being considered, including play-in tournaments, straight to the playoffs format and a shorten regular season.

In what scenario the NBA will head into is still undecided, but there’s been a rumored format of what the season could look like once it resumes. New Orleans Pelicans guard JJ Redick on his own podcast — ‘The JJ Redick Podcast’, revealed what he has heard about the proposed schedule structure and playoff seedings:

“The scenario I’ve heard…the top six teams are basically locked. Those seeds are locked. And they basically…they either scrimmage or play games that don’t mean anything. And then seeds seven through 11 or seven through 12 in both conferences play for seeds seven and eight. And teams 13 through 15 just don’t show up, they don’t have to do anything,”

On Saturday, the NBA released a statement implying they are working to resume the season in July at Disney’s ‘ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex’ in Orlando, Florida.

If Redick’s rumored scenario materializes, teams including the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons wouldn’t be joining the rest of the league in returning for the 2019-20 season.
