Jordan Bell Was Suspended Because Of A Candle

Sometimes, things don’t go according to plan. This was supposed to be Jordan Bell’s breakout season.

The versatile defensive specialist already drew comparisons to Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green and this past season, Green had taken Bell under his wing.

After averaging 4.6 points, 3.6 rebounds 0.6 steals and 1.0 blocks in only 14 minutes per game in his rookie year, he majorly impressed in this season’s preseason. Everybody thought for him to have a key role for the Warriors, at least until DeMarcus Cousins returned from injury.

Well, Boogie is back but Bell was playing only limited minutes all season long. He’s been one of the most underwhelming players this season.

During the Warriors’ win over the Grizzlies on Wednesday night, Bell wasn’t even with the team. He was suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team. The Warriors didn’t provide any further details and said it was “our business”. Apparently, Bell was suspended for buying a $15 candle at a hotel and charging the purchase to assistant coach Mike Brown. Per The Athletic:

“Brown was alerted to the charge. He inquired about it. The staff at The Peabody hotel, where the team stayed, confirmed its purchase. So the Warriors launched a quick investigation and it became clear that Bell is the one who put it on Brown’s bill. There was concern, sources say, that this wasn’t the first time Bell has pulled this maneuver on some unknowing member of the organization.

On NBA road trips, rooms are paid for by the franchise. But hotel incidentals — snacks, drinks, movies, whatever — get charged to a personal card, considered part of the employee’s road per diem. So, prank or not, Brown would’ve been on the hook for Bell’s charge, not the company.”

Bell later retweeted a tweet that claims he charged a $15 candle to Mike Brown’s account. It was supposed to be a joke, similar to what Warriors players had apparently been going with for a while now. Brown though seems to not have been in on the joke.
