When Zion Williamson found himself landed to the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2019 NBA draft, the franchise breathed a sigh of relief. The former No.1 overall pick was one of the most hyped prospects in recent memory and was being touted as a potential generational talent.

While Williamson’s talent remains undeniable, the big question with the 22-year old athlete has always been about his health. Injuries have plagued the Pelicans star, and that has made him appear in only 114 games since being drafted in the NBA.

While the Pelicans have turned into a playoff caliber team despite Williamson missing a large number of their games, it still cannot be denied that Williamson’s unavailability has severely limited the Pelicans’ ceiling as a team.

Considering now that the Pelicans are entering the play-in tournament without their two-time All-Star, former NBA big man and current NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins now put up a hot take and said that the Pelicans should learn toward trading Williamson this offseason.

“Zion looks a little heavy.” Perkins said. “I know Griff is saying, ‘We can’t put you on the floor like this because it may cause you to injure something else.’ So when I hear him ramping things up and things to that nature, it usually don’t take this damn long for a hamstring injury for a guy to return.”

“Like I said three weeks ago, if I’m the Pelicans and I’m the front office, I will really consider trading Zion Williamson this offseason.”
