Kendrick Perkins Reveals Why Kevin Durant, LeBron James Have No Case To Win MVP This Season

A lot of MVP buzz is building up around Kevin Durant coming into the 2021-22 NBA season. In the latest forecast of ESPN, the Brooklyn Nets superstar comes out as the favorite to win the 2022 MVP award, receiving a total of 45 votes.

Behind Durant are Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid who shaped up the rest of the top five. LeBron James, who has won four MVPs in his career, meanwhile doesn’t appear to be quite as strong of a contender with only a total of seven votes.

Following this, former defensive center and now-NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins spoke on ESPN’s The Jump to share his reaction to the forecast. According to Perkins, the likes of Durant and LeBron cannot win MVP for one main reason.

“It wouldn’t be Kevin Durant, it wouldn’t be LeBron James, it wouldn’t be Russell Westbrook, it wouldn’t be Anthony Davis, it would not be Kyrie Irving, it would not be James Harden… If you have a big three on your team, you cannot win the MVP award.”
