Kevin Durant On Giannis-LeBron MVP Race: “If You Include The Playoffs, Then Bron Is Easily The MVP”

Both Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James put up juggernaut numbers and both led their team in their own ways.

However, the MVP race was far from being a close fight. Antetokounmpo received 85 of the 101 first-place votes, while James, who came out disappointed, only received 16.

The Lakers superstar has proven that he’s been by far the better overall player due to his consistent and high-level of play in the playoffs, as well as being able to lead his team to the conference finals. Antetokounmpo, on the other hand, underachieved and was sent home by the fifth-seeded Miami Heat.

While one could argue that there’s a recency bias going on because of the playoffs, Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant understands the reason Giannis won the MVP, but he also claimed that the season should be evaluated including the playoffs during his appearance on ‘The Joe Budden Podcast’,

“The criteria is the regular season but I understand. I feel the same way you feel. I feel they should evaluate the whole season, evaluate the playoffs included. If you include the playoffs, then ‘Bron is easily the MVP. I see now why Giannis was the MVP. His numbers was crazy,” Durant said.
