Kevin Durant’s Second Oklahoma City Matchup is ‘Personal’

Kevin Durant takes on his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Wednesday night in an interconference battle on ESPN. It is their second meeting of the season, having Golden State won the first matchup with ease 122-96.

Durant, who left Oklahoma City this past offseason to sign with the all-star-studded Golden State Warriors, says playing against his former teammates is very emotional. It’s “never going to be a regular game” he claims, but one that he certainly has marked down on his calendar.

“It’s never going to be a regular game for me,” Durant told ESPN. “I’m just going to play. There’s nothing serious. We got the first one out the way, and we’re just going to play the next game.”

Oklahoma City fans, as well as Thunder MVP candidate Russell Westbrook have spoken out in disgust about Durant’s decision to dismiss a winning franchise and team up with the league’s best. Already speaking of Westbrook prior to and after the first matchup, Durant has no interest in speaking of their relationship this time around.

“I talked about [Westbrook] already,” Durant said. “I’m not talking about that right now. Anything about the game, I’ll talk to you. All that other stuff, I don’t have anything to say.”

In the first matchup of the season, Durant dropped a season-high 39 points on seven three-pointers, while Westbrook was locked up by Golden State’s defense finishing just 4-of-15 shooting from the field. Westbrook still managed to fill the stat-sheet with 20 points, ten assists, and six rebounds.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant have not spoken since the July 4th, 2016 decision.
