Kevin Garnett Picks Ja Morant As Early MVP Candidate, Compares Him To Allen Iverson: “Walking Away Like He’s The Best Player”

Ja Morant is one guy that has been putting the league on notice. Last year, the young Memphis Grizzlies star made his first All-Star game appearance and also won the Most Improved Player of the Year with averages of 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game on 49.3% shooting from the field.

This season, Morant looks off to a great start as he tallies 34.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game on 54.8% shooting from the field in their first three games of the season. With Morant leading the charge, the Grizzlies are now 2-1 to kick off their 2022-23 NBA campaign.

Now, everyone seems to be in awe of Morant’s continued success including NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett. Appearing on his own “KG Certified” podcast, the former Boston Celtics big man named Morant as an early MVP winner while comparing him to Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson.

“I got Luka [Doncic] in there, I got Ja [Morant],” Garnett said. “Nobody’s getting actually the return of energy like Ja’s giving the energy. Ja’s reminding me of when AI played. He’s coming in here like with a whole another energy. He got the gritty popping, he got Memphis popping, he got that team going, he got a lot of confidence. Ja’s walking away like he’s the best player in the league. You can’t tell him he ain’t. He doesn’t want nothing else.”
