Kyrie Irving Not Interested In Re-Signing With The Boston Celtics?

Until his season-ending inury, Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics had been one of the biggest success stories of this past NBA season.

On March 24, Kyrie Irving had to undergo season-ending left knee surgery. While his team, the Boston Celtics, continued their success story, and made the Conference Finals without him (and Gordon Hayward), many fans believe that the team would have advanced to the Finals if Irving had been able to play.

Kyrie and Boston – Was it the beginning of something great? Probably not. In an interview with Sopan Deb of the New York Times, Irving was asked if he sees himself as Celtic long term. His response wasn’t exactly what Celtics fans wanted to hear.

Yahoo Sports’ Chris Mannix added that Boston is worried that Kyrie, who is set to become a free agent after next season, signs with another team, possibly called New York Knicks:

I think they’re scared and should be scared to some degree of Kyrie Irving walking in 2019. I know he had a great year, but you know there are people in Cleveland that will tell you that the Knicks should be considered a real threat for Kyrie Irving. Because Kyrie had talked about it, about playing with the Knicks with some players in that Cleveland locker room from what I was told.

You know things can change. Obviously, you go to Boston. You become the face of the franchise. You’re on a winning team. Maybe the mindset has changed significantly.
