Larry Sanders on Life after Basketball

Do you guys remember Larry Sanders? He was one of the up and coming next great big men in the NBA, before walking away from the NBA in January 2015. He explained that he entered into a program for anxiety, depression and mood disorders. He said that the program led him to realize

“what’s important, and where I would want to devote my time and energy” and that ultimately he realized that “for basketball to be consuming so much of my life and time right now … it’s not there for me. It’s not that worth it.”

Sanders finished the 2012-2013 season second in blocks per game behind Serge Ibaka and also third in voting for the MIP-award averaging 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game while shooting 50.6% from the field

VICE Sports recently met up with Sanders to talk about his life after basketball:

“Larry Sanders entered the NBA in 2010 with the label of being a “diamond in the rough.” However, midway into his fourth season, personal battles led him to leave basketball for the time being. Now in his early retirement, the former Milwaukee Buck is exploring art, music, and his creative side. In this VICE Sports exclusive we talk to Sanders about life after basketball.”
