LaVar Ball Thinks LaMelo Ball Would Be A Bad Fit For The Golden State Warriors
The outspoken LaVar Ball is back at it again with yet another controversial take. With the NBA Draft set to take place this October, LaVar spoke out about scenarios involving his youngest son, LaMelo Ball – among them, him being drafted by the Golden State Warriors.
Appearing on ‘Say Less With Kaz’ podcast, LaVar implied that his son would be a follower on the Warriors, taking a more diminished role behind Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson instead of being more of a lead guy with keys to the offense.
As transcribed by Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Bay Area:
“That’s the part I don’t like about Golden State,” LaVar Ball said of the Warriors on the Say Less with Kaz podcast. “They got Klay and the other guys, and now you want to put Melo in that mix to say you got to follow these guys. Melo ain’t no follower. He don’t need to do what they do, let them do they thing.
“There’s a reason you are looking at my son. He’s talented and can play the game. It ain’t that hard. Guy is open, and you pass it to them. You open and you been working on your shot? Shoot the ball. It’s fast-paced, it’s good. But don’t be like Melo got to his turn and wait for two or three years to go by and learn from the veterans. Ain’t about that. Can you play or not?
“And when you special, how do you coach somebody special? You just enjoy it, and they special because of the things they do. Enjoy it. Let him do what he does.”
Although he wouldn’t get the same offensive opportunities in Golden State as opposed to the other mediocre teams, LaMelo would get the opportunity to learn and grow under one of the best organizations in the NBA with two of the greatest shooters of all-time to start off his young NBA career.
LaMelo Ball is projected to be a top five pick of the 2020 NBA Draft with a potential to end up as number one. He averaged 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game on 37.5% shooting from the field in 12 games in the NBL.
