LeBron James Revealed To Dennis Schröder When He Plans On Retiring

LeBron James’ longevity is just something else. He was just 18 years old when he debuted in his first NBA game back in the 2003-04 NBA season. He dominated right away and ended up being crowned as the Rookie of the Year.

Fast forward to today, LeBron is about to enter his 20th season of his career and he’s still unquestionably as good as ever. He still has a ton of gas left in the tank as he’s averaging 26.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.2 steals this season.

But when you think about the NBA average, which James clearly is no part of, the question of a possible retirement often is the elephant in the room for players in their mid-thirties. LeBron though has no plans of retiring before his son, LeBron James Jr., could play in the NBA.

Bronny is currently Sierra Canyon School, and has become one of the top recruits in his class. According to some reports, LeBron James will be willing to leave the Lakers, or any team for that matter, to have the opportunity to play alongside his son.

And by signing his 2 year $97.1 million contract extension with the Lakers this past offseason, LeBron is now in perfect position to actually go wherever Bronny goes, should he make it to the NBA.

Due to his player option for the 2024-25 season, James could opt out of his contract and enter free agency, the same year his son becomes draft eligible.

But even then, LeBron does not appear to plan to retire from the game.  James, who will turn 38 at the end of this month, wants to be in the NBA for at least five to seven more years, until age 45.

That’s what Dennis Schröder now revealed in an interview:

“I talked to LeBron about how long he’s still planning to play in the NBA for, and LeBron actually said he wants to continue playing for five, six, seven years. He’s going to be 38 soon, so with 45…”
