LeBron James Shuts Down Claim That Michael Jordan Would Average 50 In Today’s Era: “That’s Just Disrespectful”

Considering that the league in Michael Jordan’s era had less spacing, less pace, less three-point shooting and was more of a defense-oriented league that emphasized physicality and hand-checking, there has been a lot of chatter about Jordan’s capability to play and transcend in today’s era which seems to value offensive players a lot more.

Jordan was arguably the best scorer of all-time. He had 10 scoring titles under his belt and averaged 30.1 points per game for his career. This is why much of the talk acknowledges the idea that Jordan would have it easier and average 50 points per game in today’s league.

On the other hand, there’s a big crowd that doesn’t think the same way, and LeBron James, who is arguably the best player today, is one of them. Making his appearance on the ‘Road Trippin’ podcast, LeBron asserted that nobody in NBA history could have averaged 50 in today’s league.

“There’s nobody that’s gonna average 50 in our league. That’s just disrespectful, no matter how great you were in your era and how great you are to play in any era. If that’s the case I believe guys will average 50 in their era, the era that they played in.”
