LeBron James: ‘Superteams Like Warriors Are Great For NBA’

Last year’s NBA playoffs have been somewhat boring due to the dominance of the Golden State Warriors (also the Cleveland Cavaliers before the Finals). But, there have always been superteams in the NBA. But it wasn’t until the Boston Celtics’ superteam that three stars were willing to team up. Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen (Rajon Rondo to a certain point, too) formed the first modern era superteam, which triggered LeBron James’ decision to take his talents to South Beach and form a superteam himself, joining forces with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. When James came back to Cleveland he, formed yet another superteam, with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

After last year’s Finals loss, James was asked if the overwhelming power of Golden State’s superteam, consisting of Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant was good or fair for the league. LeBron responded:

“Is it fair? I don’t care. I think it’s great. It’s great for our league. Look at our TV ratings. Look at the money our league is pouring in. Guys are loving the game. Our fans love the game.”

When it comed to TV ratings and money, James has a point. The NBA is making more money than ever, and the TV ratings are also skyrocketing. But I doubt, that NBA fans love the suffocating superiority of the Warriors and Cavaliers. They’ll meet in this year’s Finals for a fourth consecutive year.
