Lonzo Ball On Shooting Woes; Remains Confident That Shots Will Fall Soon

Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball has had a very rough start to his NBA career.

Through his first 19 games, Ball is only shooting 31.5% from the field, 25.0% from 3, and 42.9% from the line.  This year’s number 2 draft pick currently has the worst field goal percentage of any player ever to attempt at least 10 shots per game. While Ball never was a great shooter, he never was this bad. Last year, when playing for UCLA, Ball’s averages were pretty impressive. He shot 55.1% from the field, 41.2% from three and 67.3% from the line.

Playing in the NBA obviously is harder. Defenders are better, the pace is faster, you don’t have as much time to jack up a shot and the three point line is further out. But this doesn’t explain the huge drop in percentages Ball has been facing.

Ball himself though, is still confident to get rid of his shooting woes, and get back to his normal shooting percentages.

When asked what he thinks is causing him to miss this many shots, Lonzo said that it’s just a matter of him not making open shots.

“I’m just missing shots. I definitely like the looks I’m getting. Most of them are wide open, people are going under screens. I feel like they’re going to fall. Just have to keep shooting and shooting with confidence.” (via  ESPN LA Radio)
