Marcus Smart Thinks They Could’ve Beaten The Warriors In 2018 Playoffs Had They Beaten The Cavaliers

Entering the 2018 playoffs without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, the Boston Celtics defied all odds and managed to set their feet onto the Eastern Conference Finals where they eventually faced the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Unfortunately, LeBron and the Cavaliers proved themselves too much for the young Boston team to handle, beating the team in 7 games. This LeBron-led team then moved on to the NBA Finals, where they failed to walk away with a single win against the Golden State Warriors.

Celtics defensive guard Marcus Smart now looked back on their 2018 playoff campaign and fired off an unpopular opinion regarding the potential matchup between them and the Warriors. He declared that the Celtics could’ve beaten the Kevin Durant-led team had they met each other in the NBA Finals.

“We definitely thought that we had a great chance,” Smart said. “And to this day, we still thought if we went to the championship instead of LeBron [James] and those guys, we definitely would have beat Golden State that year.”
