Matt Barnes Rejects The Idea Of Trans Women Playing In The WNBA: “I’m Pro-Make-Your-Choice, But Sports Is Different”

Transgender women participating in women’s sports and competition isn’t a new phenomenon. But it continues to be such a controversial and hot topic which clearly suggests that people are still pretty divided on which side of the fence they stand on.

Even as an increasing number of people support transgender women, many of them still reject the idea of transgender women competing in women’s sports. Former NBA journeyman Matt Barnes is one prime example.

Appearing on Vlad TV, Barnes was asked about transgender women potentially playing in the WNBA. While Barnes suggested that he supports the transgender community, he doesn’t believe that trans women have a space in the WNBA.

“I don’t like that,” Barnes quickly responded. “You wanna be whatever you wanna be…I’m pro-make-your-choice. Do you, do this, but sports is different, you know what I mean? Sports is a different beast.”

“If you’re born a woman, I think you should play women sports. And if you’re born a man, you should play man sports. But if you wanna be—if you wanna do whatever you wanna do with your life, I respect that. That’s not my business. But I just think the sports thing is just a little different.”
