What started as a shoe deal for a rookie player, ended up being a billion dollar subsidiary for Nike – Jordan Brand.

Jordan Brand not only sponsors plenty of active NBA stars, but also sponsor other leagues such as the MLB, NFL, NASCAR, WNBA, as well as Paris Saint-Germain.

Turns out Nike can thank its biggest competitor Adidas for the entre Jordan company. How? Well, back in 1984, Michael Jordan himself wanted to sign with Adidas, but Adidas executives opted for taller players.

The Jordan Brand brought in $5.1 billion last year, which also creates an incredible stat – Michael Jordan made more than twice the amount of money last year, than he made during his entire NBA career.

You see, Michael Jordan ist earning around five percent of Jordan Brands wins, meaning he received $256.1 million for last year. In his entire active career, Jordan made around $90 million.

Nike’s Jordan Brand brought in $5.1 billion in fiscal 2022, and his Airness pockets a reported 5% of that under his deal with Nike. The athlete and apparel company initially linked up in 1984, his rookie year.

  • Based on those figures, Jordan may have earned $256.1 million last year from licensing his name to Nike. His net worth is $1.7 billion, per Forbes.
  • Jordan Brand revenue hit $4.8 billion in 2021, up 31% from the previous year’s $3.6 billion.
  • The NBA legend and owner of the Charlotte Hornets made $90 million in salary over his NBA career.

Jordan Brand earned $19.4 billion in revenue over the last five fiscal years.
