NBA, Nike, New Era And Brooklyn Nets Are Being Sued Over Nets’ City Edition Jerseys

22 years ago, on March 9, 1997, Christopher George Latore Wallace (aka Notorious B.I.G) was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.

Biggie was one of the best artists to ever exist in hip hop music, and there are not many people who embodied the city of Brooklyn more than the Big Poppa.

The Brooklyn Nets have honored Wallace regularly and celebrate ‘Biggie Night’ once a year. Even their City Edition jersey was inspired by Biggie and the vibrant sweaters he was known to wear. The jerseys, who indeed are one of the best looking NBA jerseys out there, are now causing trouble for the Brooklyn Nets and Nike.

Australian brand COOGI that designed the original sweaters for Wallace, filed a lawsuit against the NBA the Nets, Nike, New Era, and Russel Brands. The lawsuit reads:

“While other colorful and ornamental sweaters have and continue to exist, the highly distinctive and ornamental designs of COOGI sweaters and apparel have become exceedingly famous,”

COOGI apparently is suing for damages and is demanding the Nets to stop selling the jerseys, shirts, hoodies, beanies, and whatever other merchandise has the distinctive ornaments on them.
