NBA Offseason Grades – Mavericks, Nuggets & Pistons

DALLAS MAVERICKS: C

There isn’t much to say about the Dallas Mavericks this summer to be honest. Other than re-signing Nerlens Noel, there hasn’t been much movement if any at the Mavs. It seems as though they’re waiting for Dirk Nowitzki (their favorite son) to retire before they move on and try and catch up the elite in the Western Conference. Not much to see here this off season.

DENVER NUGGETS: B+

There is something really nice brewing in Denver. The Nuggets showed massive signs of improvement last campaign as they just missed out on a playoff spot and it looks as though that development will continue this off season. As that happens, they have also pulled off a massive coup for the franchise, luring talented big man Paul Millsap away from the Hawks to team up with the other young talent on the roster. Nikola Jokic and Millsap will form a nice partnership in the front court, and this single off season move has definitely put the Nuggets in the playoff picture. They didn’t make an array of signings this off season, but they did solidify their roster and add an all-star caliber talent to the mix. An underrated summer for the Nugs.

DETROIT PISTONS: B

Much like the Dallas Mavericks, the Pistons had a very quiet off season. They let go of forward Marcus Morris to the Celtics, but did land superb defensive guard Avery Bradley in the process. Bradley is better than Morris, so the Pistons got better overall in that respect. They’ve also welcomed Langston Galloway, who is a handy scoring addition that can come off the bench as an underrated player for them. The Pistons didn’t do much this off season, but if they’re healthy and work cohesively, they’ll be in the mix for the playoffs again. A inactive summer for the franchise.
