NBA Twitter Destroyed ABC For Using Pre-9/11 Footage Of NYC For Heat-Knicks Halftime Report
Yesterday, the Miami Heat and New York Knicks opened up the Eastern Conference Semis, when they played Game 1 of their series at legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City.
While the Knicks started the game playing incredibly efficient, things got worse as the game continued. In the end, Miami was able to steal Game 1 against the Knicks, even though Jimmy Butler played on only one leg for a long period of time in the 4th quarter.
The game was exciting and caused many reactions, however, the biggest reaction of the afternoon wasn’t game related, but regarded the half time report on ABC/ESPN.
As Game 1 went into halftime, the ABC broadcast cut to B-roll footage of New York City and the Statue of Liberty. What was supposed to a scenic shot – one we see in every sports broadcast – ended with plenty of criticism by fans and NBA Twitter, because in this shot used by the broadcasters, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were visible in the frame.
