Paul Pierce On Scoring Surge In Today’s NBA: “In This Climate, I Probably Would Have Scored A Little More”

When talking about the NBA today, one of the biggest takeaways from basketball pundits is that past NBA players would’ve done better and scored more points if they were playing in the league today.

As the NBA draws a bigger talent pool and progresses to a more offensive-oriented game, the number of people who have echoed the same belief have only increased over the recent years. One player who thinks the same is Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Paul Pierce.

Pierce was a prolific scorer who amassed over 26,000 points and 2,000 three-pointers in his career. He averaged around 25.0 points a game in his prime and managed to stay at 21.8 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field by the end of his 15-year Celtics tenure.

Pierce had 21 games scoring at least 40 points, but only once did he notch a game with 50 points. Now appearing on “KG Certified: Ticket & The Truth” podcast, the former Celtics superstar revealed he believes he would’ve scored more if he was playing in today’s NBA.

“If you’re a great shooter and a great driver, you’re going to excel in this league,” Pierce said. “If I played in the league today, the way I shot the ball, the way I drove the ball… You know, I only ended up with one 50-point game in my career. This time and day, in this climate, I probably would have scored a little more.”
