Possibly No 2020-21 NBA Season If League Doesn’t Resume This Year, Says Jared Dudley

The status of the 2019-20 NBA season has become more questionable after recent reports of multiple NBA players expressing their resistance and displeasure towards the resumption of the season have started to surface.

Kyrie Irving, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul are among others who have expressed opposition. Irving is troubled about the alleged systematic racism in correlation with returning to play, and the rest are worried about health and family. While these things could be considered valid, ending the season comes at a big cost.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Jared Dudley has been vocal and objective about the situation. On Twitter, Dudley spoke about the consequence of not playing, which could ultimately result to cancellation of the 2020-21 NBA season.

“I’ve done interviews taking about this, Ive talked to over 30 young and vet players about it… Huge financial implications if we don’t play.. Saliers [Salaries] cut in half and possible no season the following year”

Like the rest of the players, Dudley is also concerned about safety and understands the safety concerns of the others. But on the other hand, he also considers the financial implications of ending the season.

In multiple tweets last month, the 34-year old Laker veteran showed willingness for return-to-play and expressed that the players have no idea of what is at stake if they don’t finish the season this year.

“Safety obviously 1st! No where will be as safe as the NBA compound site they determine but, I Don’t think players know the effects of NOT playing does too next year. This is bigger then My team isnt in the playoffs so who cares! No playoffs, no tv money, NEW CBA next year!”

“Players don’t understand the ramifications if we don’t play this year.. It effects next season as well. No games, no tv money , billions lost in revenue.. There will be no vaccine coming next year also so IF we can be Safe which I have faith in the NBA we can l, we should play”.

Bobby Marks, former assistant general manager of the Brooklyn Nets, also went to Twitter and made a minor outline about the financial implications that could come if the season doesn’t resume.

Previously, the NBA’s board of governors and the player’s union both approved a 22-team format to restart the 2020 season in late July at Disney World in Orlando. But with a growing number of players voicing their disagreement to resume the season, the league could be in major jeopardy.
