Quinn Cook Reveals Why Rajon Rondo Was His Toughest Matchup In The Playoffs

Quinn Cook had all praise for his teammate Rajon Rondo during an interview on the ‘Dawg Talk Podcast’ where Cook, who was a former point guard for the Warriors, appointed Rondo as the toughest point guard he has ever faced in the playoffs.

Cook emphasized Rondo’s ability to call plays and think two possessions ahead as the very reasons he named him as his toughest matchup. The two players only met one time in the playoffs; and it was the matchup between the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans in the 2018 Western Conference Semifinals.

As transcribed by Sports Illustrated:

“I want to say it was ESPN and they asked who was your toughest matchup in the playoffs and I was like, ‘Rondo. Not this guy, not that guy.’ Rondo was thinking two possessions ahead. We were playing New Orleans in the second round. He was literally calling out our plays. ‘Bron does that, too. Man, he sees the game from another level. Then when I got to see him every day, he watches the game in slow motion. He watches the coaches calls”

Quinn Cook doesn’t get much time and touches this year as opposed to his stint with the Warriors. Still, the 26-year old point guard has one of a kind opportunity to learn under two of the best floor generals that the game has ever seen in Rajon Rondo and LeBron James.

Before the hiatus, Cook was averaging 4.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game on 43.9% shooting from the field in just 10.8 minutes of playing time. Meanwhile, Rondo, who was taking the starting guard role, was averaging 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game on 41.8% shooting from the field.

Both Cook and Rondo have a won a ring with their respective teams before. Now, the two point guards will have another shot to win their second rings this year as the Los Angeles Lakers look locked and loaded for the upcoming season restart in Orlando, Florida.
