Rasheed Wallace Believes Kevin Durant Wouldn’t Have Been As Successful Had He Played In His Era

Asking retired players whether a player of today’s generation would fare in the past era has always been common occurrence ever since, and more often than not, retired players get too hesitant to admit that today’s players could be as good or better if they were playing in the past NBA.

Rasheed Wallace, a former NBA All-Star for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Detroit Pistons, is no different. Retiring in 2013, Wallace got the chance to play against new school NBA players that up until now are still playing in a more offense-oriented NBA – one example is Kevin Durant.

Known for his video-game like scoring ability and insane guard skills for a forward, Durant has put together a sensational resume since beginning his career in 2008. Had he played earlier however, Wallace doesn’t think the Brooklyn Nets superstar would have stood out that much, consequently noting the difference in style of play back then.

“In that era? No, I don’t think he would’ve had too much success. Now, he’s a monster. You have to look at it this way, back then, there were a lot of post-ups. Back then, the game was inside-out. Now, it’s outside-in.”
