Ray Allen Doesn’t Expect Congratulatory Messages From Former Celtics Teammates About HOF Induction

Ray Allen will be one of the Basketball Hall of Fame inductees this coming Friday, rightfully so. Nontheless, he isn’t expecting congratulatory texts or calls from his former Celtics teammates Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo.

Even though they were very successful as a team and won the NBA championship in 2008, their relationship has gone from friends to ‘enemies’ when Allen left the Celtics to join their rivals, the Miami Heat.

He didn’t let his teammates know personally Garnett and Rondo still are dissapointed by that and haven’t spoken to Allen ever sine. A couple of months ago, Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett hosted a vacation to celebrate the Boston Celtics’ 2008 Championship, to which Ray Allen wasn’t invited. Garnett explained the situation with following words.

“People don’t understand that this is real life for us. The situation with Ray is very sensitive. I think when we all talked about doing this reunion tour, we was talking about guys that we consider loyal, part of this group. Just being honest — my two cent, man. When Ray decided to go to the Heat, I felt like he moved on. He went to pursue another ring. He got another ring — shout to him. And that’s it.”

Although Allen and Paul Pierce have resolved their issues in the meantime, Allen told The Athletic that he still hasn’t spoken to Garnett, Rondo or Glen Davis.

It’s common knowledge that the relationship deteriorated with your old championship Celtics teammates after you left to join Miami in 2012. Where does that stand today?

“I talked to Paul a year ago today, and we patched it out. So much was made about my decision, and they were upset with me because I left for Miami. But it will never change what went on between us in 2008.”

Any communication with KG, Rondo, Glen Davis?

“Nope.”
