Robert Horry Opens Up Receiving Death Threats For Saying Hakeem Olajuwon Is Better Than Tim Duncan

Basketball conversations are all fun and games until someone gets a death threat for expressing a different opinion. As absurd as it sounds, it really does happen on a regular, especially to bigger basketball personalities.

Seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry is one popular figure who can attest to this. Horry spent 16 seasons in the NBA and played with numerous talented NBA players including two of the greatest big men of all-time in Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan.

In 2017, Horry weighed in on the comparison between the two Hall of Famers, and to his knowledge, Olajuwon stands out as the better basketball player. Horry, who appeared on the Road Trippin’ podcast, now revealed that this opinion actually led San Antonio Spurs fans to send him some death threats.

“First of all, it’s just my opinion and I thought at the time that Dream [Olajuwon] was better than Tim and people get mad at me for saying that… You got to understand I grew up an Olajuwon fan. I watched him. I played with him. I played with Tim. Tim was a hell of a player,” Horry said.

“People were up in arms, it was crazy. I was getting death threats. The crazy part is my wife and I had to do an appearance in San Antonio at this event, and everybody was looking at me like this — [crosses arms with blank expression].”
